Girls Weekend

Last weekend, I had a, much needed, girls weekend.  One of my very best friends that I met in design school come visit me from Nashville. We don't get to see each other that often but when we do, we pick up right where we left off and always have a blast! (She's the one I made cookies with this past Christmas- here)

We took a trip to Cleveland to go look at some cute "gifty" shops and we stopped to have lunch at Jenkins Deli. Its been there for 40 years and still going strong, I think it must be the fried pickles!!!

The bummer was that most of the stores we wanted to go to were closed.
But we did stop in Trees and Trends and I got this super cute polka dot fall flag.
So then we headed to downtown Chatty.
I was on the hunt for a kitchen island and I found the PERFECT ONE!

this is exactly what I want... drawer, bottom shelf, white with wood top.... problem was it is $500. uh.. no thanks. dang it... keep looking!

Steph (my friend) picked up a Lane chest just like this one, painted white for $50!! You should have seen us trying to get it in the back of my little coupe! HA!

I spotted this table, which I LOVE. for a cheap price of $150! I so would have bought it if I had a place to put it. And I thought about it as a kitchen island but it was only 30" tall and too long... 60"... shoot!

Then I fell in LOVE with this Windsor bench. But it was $225, plus I have NO where to put it. Trust me, I keep trying to find a place. How fabulous would this be in a foyer or a hallway?

I got this wonderful burlap garland at Michaels. 10 yards for CHEAP! I cant wait to use it!

And now for the cute jewelry...

I am loving the turquoise bangles-Belk on clearance

got these at Kohls for $1.75

cute studs from Kohls

white bangles-Forever 21

Coral earrings from a boutique store downtown

Then, I found these cute organizers for my bathroom at TJ's and Marshalls

see how perfect and organized my drawers look?
This girl loves some organization!
Yay for some cute/girly finds... I got a few other things from Target- a really cute lace dress and a pair of shoes, new makeup and shampoo from Ulta and a new dress from Kohls.. gotta love girly shopping!

Time for a Laundry Room Update

Before we get the the Laundry room...

How sweet and southern are these? And they are so Happy.... they make me smile!

I got some new table lamps and I am really enjoying them. I sold my old ones on Craigslist the other day and since I found one of these lamps a few months ago, I spotted the other one and thought they would be pretty as a pair on the end tables.

I got this linen table runner for $1 the other day, I think I am going to put my monogram on it. It is a short runner but I still really like it, especially for $1!

Then I got one large picking basket for $1 and these 2 small baskets for $.50 each from the Thrift Store.

I have been wanting to paint my laundry room, especially since we had leftover paint. My idea is to paint the walls tan and have a blue stripe going around. I had the day off today and got the walls painted! Yippee!!!

Here are the before pictures. My laundry room is just a small closet with bifold doors. No big deal, white walls, cheap wire shelf.

It already looks a TON better. You can see in the picture where I started painting and them remembered to snap a picture.

I also made these...cute huh?

I got the starfish for a total of $4. Burlap and I had the frames. All I did was take out the glass on the frames, glued burlap to the back of the cardboard and then hot glued the starfish on. It took all of 5 minutes and I LOVE the outcome.

YAY! I can't wait to get the laundry room done!

I thought about these galvanized tins with chalkboard tags for storage for the shelf in the laundry room.

Or possibly something like these. I saw these at Micheals, they're small but I thought about making them myself for the laundry room.

Which ones do you like?

Shower Time

The past few days have been very busy, hints the fact I have not posted in a while.
Saturday, I decided to have a yard sale, which was pretty successful. Made $175 plus I sold a dresser a few days before on CL that I bought for $50 and wanted to "fix" it up... well I never got around to it so I sold it for $75... so that is pretty successful I would say...

Sunday a friend of mine and myself hosted a wedding shower for a dear friend of ours. Both girls go to church with me and I met them when we joined a small group over a year ago. We have changed groups since then, but I still get together with them all the time and we have become great friends!
We had planned to have the shower outside, but at 3 in the afternoon in the summer heat, it just was not going to happen... either way, we made it work and it was lovely!
We used chalkboards, mason jars and lanterns, and the colors we used were navy and yellow.

I LOVED the sunflowers in the mason jar.

so sweet and southern.

These mason jar dispensers are from World Market, plus the "chalkboards" are just chalk painted pieces of cardboard.

cute saying displayed in the kitchen near the food

Water bottles tied with twine

Water holder

some super yummy, creamy lemon pie I made....SUPER easy.( Its a Kraft recipe)

what you need

1-3/4
cups cold milk
2
pkg. (4-serving size each) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
1
can (6 oz.) frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
1
tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed
1
HONEY MAID Graham Pie Crust (6 oz.)

Make It

POUR milk into large bowl. Add dry pudding mixes. Beat with wire whisk 1 minute. Add lemonade concentrate; beat an additional minute or until well blended. (Mixture will be thick.) Gently stir in whipped topping.
SPOON into crust.
REFRIGERATE 4 hours or until set. Store leftover pie in refrigerator.

Here is part of the food table.

Another chalkboard at the front door.

Lantern center pieces with the navy/floral runners

Everyone drank out of mason jars and I tied twine around the forks and napkins. This is one of my favorites!

Lanterns scattered on the counters and tables.

This was the invitation which we put in a frame. Isn't the invite adorable?

Another cheesy shower saying.... on the mantle with some more sunflowers.

And here is the Bride-to-be opening her wedding gifts. Her wedding is less then a month away!

The shower was great and she got a lot of really nice things. I am so excited for her!

Let Freedom Ring!

Happy Independence Day everyone!

God Bless America....

my home sweet home.

We went to see fireworks last night....

waiting for it to get dark...

Red, white and blue.

This was our view waiting on the fireworks. Perfect!

Let freedom ring!

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever."
